The G5 Elite Programme: an academic ‘summer camp’ that aims to provide Chinese A-level students with all of the required skills needed for a successful application to a top British university. The main goal of the programme is to lead students ‘from A to excellence’ and thus to improve their competitiveness when applying to study at the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and other G5 member universities.
There are two roles available for prospective interns, the details of which are given below.
Pre-summer Programme Tutor: this position is based in the UK and thus can be done remotely whilst you are studying at university. It is assigned on a project-by-project basis.
The main role is to guide students through the application process, beginning with an appropriate subject choice based on the students interests, appropriate university choice based on the students ability and aspirations and finally assistance with writing the personal statement. There may also be the opportunity to work with the students in a tutoring capacity to help to improve their academic performance and to foster their interests beyond the curriculum.
Summer Programme Tutor: this position is based in Shanghai, China and lasts for a period of 8 weeks over the summer. A new group of interns are selected each summer, though repeat applications are strongly encouraged.
The role is similar to the Pre-summer Programme Tutor except that you are now working with the students face-to-face. The role also contains a teaching aspect where you will be expected to teach the students material relevant to their subject of interest and therefore ultimately that will help to improve the strength of their application.
Application guidance – design an optimum application plan that is tailored to the needs of each individual student.
Examination and interview practice – help students to prepare for the entrance exams and interviews specific to their chosen subject.
PS writing support – provide guidance and advice to assist with writing a personal statement of the highest quality.
Mock interviews – improve the students interview skillset including communication, mental agility, interview etiquette and technique, and how to cope with unexpected situations or questions.
